To follow your gut, you need a map. Here’s how to draw one.

I made a commitment to follow my gut and find something worth doing.

It took a lot of self-awareness and conversations with people closest to me, but I gave myself orders to go on a journey: find what I love doing, as fast as possible — at all costs.

Here’s how I drew the map for my journey.

On Friday of Week 5 of living in my parent’s basement, my mom and I had a long talk that changed my life. I told her I felt pressure from my peers. Imaginary pressure — but — pressure nonetheless. I remember saying…

Monumental art is accidental.

Art isn’t found by creating. Art is found once you get all the junk out. Garbage is endemic to our condition. It’s the first thing we all produce. Our first drafts, our first ideas, our first thoughts are all trash. Picasso made about 50,000 pieces of art. 50,000 final drafts. How much trash do you think he had to get out of his system before he produced something he was ready to share with the world?

Art isn’t found by action. It’s found by accident. We stumble across ideas, happen upon epiphanies, and run into people…

Memo
Memo
Lucrezia Carnelos on Unsplash

In the old world, a memo (or memorandum, meaning “reminder”) communicated:

  • policies
  • procedures
  • related official business within an organization

A memo is a written form of content broadcasted to a large audience, rather than a 1:1 conversation. By in large, they’re unfocused, off-topic, and boring as hell. As a communication tool, they’re duds. Memos suck.

“Get the memo?”

“Oh, you didn’t get the memo?”

“You must’ve not gotten the memo.”

See what I mean?

In the new world, companies must maintain their culture, practices, and procedures among a distributed workforce. Memos need to make a comeback.

But, they need new…

Threads
Threads

We call this exercise pulling threads.

Remember back to a time when you pulled that string out of your sweatshirt? Wasn’t the thread much longer than you might’ve thought?

That’s how I like to visualize my best ideas. I imagine them working themselves out of my head and I have to pull them out onto the page. It’s a powerful technique for letting your creative process work itself out.

And, that’s what they’re doing, right? They’re wriggling. They’re contorting. They’re warping, clawing, and sneaking.

It’s a harsh reality, but it’s one that’s worth talking about; the creative process is an…

“What’s the worst that could happen?”

This question, by far, has led to the most important and life-altering breakthroughs in my life.

When thinking about a new business idea, why not ask for a friend’s feedback?

When figuring out which diet to choose, why not try them all?

When you debate on whether or not to call that friend you haven’t reached out to in a while, why not text them first?

When you put yourself in a state of mind to consider the worst possible outcome, the road back to the present becomes much less scary.

You often paint…

Nick Saban knows winning.

But, like many coaches in the upper echelon of their field, he’s become disconnected from the result.

Every summer as camp begins, he repeats this to his players:

*“Don’t think about winning the SEC Championship. Don’t think about the national championship. Think about what you needed to do in this drill, on this play, in this moment. That’s the process: Let’s think about what we can do today, the task at hand.”*

If you’re like me, you’re on a mission to find work that brings you joy.

This is difficult when you focus on the end…

An Ethereum wallet in your web browser

What is MetaMask? 🤨

MetaMask is an Ethereum wallet that works as a Google Chrome extension on your laptop.

But, what does that mean? 🤔

When you purchase a token using ether (ETH), it is recorded on the blockchain that you own it.

With MetaMask, you can visualize the tokens that you own and the ETH that you have just like you would in your mobile banking app.

What can I do with MetaMask? 😁

A mobile web browser with an Ethereum wallet built-in

What is Coinbase Wallet? 🤨

Coinbase Wallet is a mobile web browser with an Ethereum wallet built-in.

The wallet can hold Ether, ERC20 tokens, and ERC721 tokens.

Coinbase Wallet lets you browse websites, spend Ether, and collect tokens.

But, what does that mean? 🤔

Ethereum is a platform kind of like the Apple App Store. You spend Ether in the blockchain apps.

When you hold Ether in your Coinbase Wallet, you can then spend it in the blockchain apps.

For example, R.A.R.E. is a blockchain app that allows you to buy…
